Sammy Sy of MTBA-Henrich rolled a 1408 series to top the second day of the 7th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge. Storm-Thailand’s waited until the last squad of the day to qualify for the bye to the finals. Phiriyahbhoon and Annop Arromsaranov rolled 1390 and 1385 respectively. The top three two block scores of the day gets an automatic bid to the finals on the 24th and 25th of September at Paeng’s Midtown Bowl in Robinsons Place, Malate. This tournament is proudly sponsored by Euro-Med Laboratories and Storm Products Inc. The coveted title comes with a Million Pesos prize for the champion. Top bowlers from 16 countries have come to participate and hope in becoming the seventh champion of this annual challenge. Other sponsors are Bevida Distilled Drinking Water, Manila Bulletin, Philippine Airlines, Roto Grip, AZO, MOC, Heritage Hotel, City Garden Hotel, Premiere Insurance and Surety Corporation, Ark International, Wave Products Inc., and Bowlmart Training Institute.
Paulo Valdez of TBAM-Timberpro is currently leading the rest of the qualifiers for the Euro-Med Storm challenge with a 1390 series. Aussie Andrew Frawley (1387) and Hong Kong’s Chan Shuk Han (1357) are in second and third spot respectively. U.S.A. Storm pro bowler Rhino Page rolled a 1344 to finish three pins ahead of balikbayan Anthony Balabbo to round up the top five spot. World Cup representative Paeng Nepomuceno (1330) finished ahead of three Hong Kong national squad members Milki Ng (1325), Wicky Yeung (1318), and Sylvia Kong (1269) to finish in the top nine spot. The tenth spot is currently held by Mark Sy of the U.S.A.
Javee Yusingco, of PBA, continues to lead the Bevida-Storm Challenge 2009 with his 1495 series. Nilo Penado, also of PBA, was sensational rolling a 1487 series to fall eight pins short of Javee. PBA’s Nelia Santos also moved up to third with a 1375 series just two pins ahead of PBAP-Bowlmart’s Apple Posadas. TBAM’s Tommy Cu dropped to the fifth slot, while Anthony Balabbo passed four PBAP-Bowlmart bowlers for a tie in the fifth spot with a 1365 series. Team mates Gene Basa (1346), Cecilia Yap (1340), J Em Ang (1340), and Dennis Ho (1329) occupies the seventh to the tenth spot. The top 48 bowlers will advance to the finals on Thursday morning and hoping to capture the title and 100.000 pesos first place prize that comes with it.
The second day also saw the arrivals of the professional bowlers from Korea, who will see action tomorrow. American Professional bowlers from Storm Rhino Page and Tim Mack has also arrived and began their qualifying today. European Storm staff Dominic Barrett from England and Mads Sandbaekken from Norway also began their assault on the lanes. Guam national bowlers have also began their qualifying. Other pro bowlers from the U.S.A. representing Ebonite have arrived and will start their competing tomorrow afternoon. Team Singapore led by Remy Ong will also see action tomorrow morning. Team Malaysia will be arriving on Monday as well as bowlers from U.A.E., and Indonesia. Also expected are more Korean pro bowlers, Thai bowlers, China bowlers, Chinese Taipei bowlers and Stuart Williams of England.
